Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Message: Camilla to be Queen Consort

The Duchess of Cornwall never pushed for the title of queen consort or raised the issue herself, according to a source.

In an extraordinary statement over the weekend, the Queen expressed her wish that Camilla be known as Queen Consort when Prince Charles takes the throne.

For years, pundits were certain that Camilla would take the title of princess consort, though there was speculation that Charles wanted his wife to be his queen.

In an explosive statement from the Palace, it was announced that the monarch’s wish is for Camila to be known as Queen Consort.

In a message to the nation, the Queen wrote: “When, in the fullness of time, my son Carlos becomes King, I know that he and his wife Camila will be given the same support that they have given me.

“And it is my sincere wish that when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her loyal service.”

But despite the long debate over Camilla’s future title, a source told the Daily Mail that she has always kept quiet on the subject and never pushed for it.

The long-term staff member told the newspaper: “I can honestly say, with my hand on my heart, in all the years I’ve known her, she has never raised this as an issue or asked, ‘How can we create the environment in which this can occur?’

It was previously stated that Camilla would be a princess consort, not a queen consort.

“If someone brought it up in his presence because there had been a poll that they thought he should be aware of, he was absolutely sphinx-like. Inscrutable.

“With a nudge, she might raise an eyebrow and nod her head in acknowledgment. But you’d never know what she thought about it. Never.”

Meanwhile, another said that Camilla’s approach to the role when her time comes will be “selfless and supportive”, much like the late Prince Philip, who was a consort to the Queen.

Since the Queen’s statement, published on the eve of her Platinum Jubilee, Charles has paid tribute to his “inspiring” mother in a moving statement.

In the message, he also admits that he is “deeply aware” of his desire for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to become his queen consort when she assumes the throne.

He said: “On this historic day, my wife and I join you all in congratulating Her Majesty The Queen on the remarkable achievement of serving this nation, the realms and the Commonwealth for seventy years.

“The Queen’s devotion to the welfare of all her people inspires even greater admiration with each passing year.

“We are deeply aware of the honor that my mother’s wish represents.

“As we seek together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my dear wife has been my own constant support throughout.

“This unprecedented Platinum Jubilee year provides an opportunity for all of us to come together and celebrate the service of The Queen, whose example will continue to guide us for years to come.”
