A murder probe has been opened after two men and a woman were found dead inside sheltered accommodation in Buckinghamshire.

Neighbors living in the complex in Bourne End told how they had heard a series of gunshots.

Forensics officers have been at the scene since last night, with witnesses saying armed police descended on the address last night.

Detectives believe it was a “targeted attack”, but say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the three deaths.

Thames Valley Police said in a statement: “The Major Crime Unit has launched a murder investigation following an incident in Bourne End. At around 9.55pm yesterday (Tues), officers attended an address in Spring Gardens following reports of a disturbance.

“Inside, officers found three people deceased and evidence to suggest a serious assault had occurred.

“The deceased are a man and a woman, both in their 60s and from Bourne End, and a man in his 50s from Hazlemere, Bucks. All known to each other.”

Witnesses told how at least six police officers, all armed with guns, later ran down an alleyway beside the flats and battered down a gate before smashing their way into the community building in the riverside village.

One resident living within the Orchard House complex and who wished to remain unnamed, said: “I woke up to armed officers with guns, going bang bang bang and I saw forensic science officers later.”

Locals said they had spotted a police helicopter hovering overhead during the early hours of the morning.

Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Kevin Brown, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “We have launched a murder investigation after the discovery of three people deceased within the property.

“The next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, our thoughts remain with them at this most difficult time.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are dealing with a very complex inquiry, which appears to be a targeted attack.

“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.”

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said earlier this afternoon: “Officers are on the scene of a serious incident in Spring Gardens, Bourne End.

“At this stage, we are not in a position to provide further comment but will update as soon as we are able to. We do not believe there to be a wider danger to the public at this time.”

A spokesman for Red Kite Community House, which runs the sheltered accommodation, said: “We are aware of an incident at one of our sheltered schemes.

“We are currently working with the police to help assist with their investigation.”

Forensic officers were seen today scouring the community hall after armed officers stormed Orchard House, a community housing block.

Paul, who lives on the top floor of the block of flats opposite Orchard House, told Bucks Free Press: “I saw around half a dozen armed officers go down the alley and from the back entrance last night.

“My friend who’s visiting his mum at Orchard House said an hour ago he wasn’t allowed to leave.”

Resident Avril Roll said she wasn’t sure what had happened, but added: “I haven’t slept all night because they [police] kicked the back door in at about 11.50pm.”

This afternoon, the assisted-living block of flats remained cordoned off with police tape.

Worried neighbors were seen asking the police on guard at the front entrance of the flats, what had happened in the night.

Another neighbor who gave her name only as Jade and said she was 22 years old and unemployed, said: “Police won’t say what happened.

“Last night at around 11pm we saw a couple of police cars.

“Then suddenly five police cars arrived, undercover police arrived and armed police showed up, all in the same building. There was also a helicopter flying overhead.

“They told the people inside to stay in their flats. They said there was no immediate threat, and that was it.

“There were police vans present, but we didn’t see anyone come out in handcuffs. We’ve never had something as big as armed police swarming around here.

“We can’t even think what has happened that would require so many armed police. They definitely were looking for someone – they had plans of the whole building and were shutting down certain areas.”
