Asturias will close the interior of the nightlife for a month

The Government of the Principality of Asturias imposes new restrictions for the nightlife sector, whose interior will have to close for a month starting next Tuesday, given the advance of the coronavirus pandemic and the “exponential growth” that is taking place in the omicron variant.

Thus, the interior of all cocktail bars, discos, dance halls and nightlife venues Asturias will be closed from December 28, the day on which the presentation of the covid passport will also become mandatory to access bars, restaurants, gyms, gambling venues, mass events or nursing homes.

The inside of all restaurants and hotels -the terraces are excluded- must close their doors before one o’clock in the morning and the sale of alcohol at gas stations and businesses between 22:00 and 6:00 hours will also be prohibited. These restrictions have been adopted in an extraordinary meeting of the Governing Council of the Principality.

After multiplying by ten the cumulative incidence at two weeks, which is already in 875 cases For every 100,000 inhabitants, the 1,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus were surpassed for the first time on Wednesday.

Aid to the sector

At a press conference, the Vice President of the Government, Juan Cofiño, announced this measure, which will be accompanied by aid to the sector to alleviate the “possible damages” that this measure may imply.

Likewise, Cofiño has also transferred the recommendation that, before the celebration of the Christmas holidays, encounters are restricted to a maximum of ten people, both in public and in private, and that those who have been close contacts of positives, are pending PCR or have catarrhal symptoms do not participate in them.

The Asturian Executive has announced these measures on the same day that the obligation to wear masks abroad comes into force throughout the country and one day after the Superior Court of Justice of Asturias endorses the implementation of the COVID passport “in view of the alarming figures of the rise in infections and the pressure on the hospitals of those infected.”

It is not the first community to set new restrictions in the face of the advance of COVID. Already this Thursday, the Region of Murcia also closed all non-essential activities between 1:00 and 6:00. And in Catalonia, the Justice endorsed the curfew.

And ask for more doses to increase the vaccination rate

On the other hand, Asturias has requested the Ministry of Health to send more vaccines against COVID because there is still capacity to increase the rate of vaccination and he does not rule out asking for the collaboration of the Army, which has already requested more trackers to identify and follow up close contacts of positives.

According to the Health Minister, in Asturias they are inoculating all the doses that arrive weekly and is in a position to further accelerate the rate of vaccination, which in the case of children under 12 years of age has already reached more than 30% of the population, ten points above the national average.

Among those over 60 years of age where the third booster dose has already reached more than 89%, a stabilization of cases has already been seen, according to the counselor, for whom it has been shown that the vaccine works because more than seven of each ten hospitalizations, and eight out of ten ICU admissions have been avoided among those with the complete pattern.
