BRIT Awards: Adele says she ‘loves being a female artist’

Adele was silenced by ITV bosses during The BRIT Awards on Tuesday night.

The singer was muted as she made one of her speeches on stage during her successful evening at the swanky awards.

The Someone Like You singer stole the show at The 02 Academy – collecting three trophies from the four categories she was nominated for.

After canceling her Las Vegas residency last month, the mum-of-one, 33, was back on home turf to attend and perform at the star-studded ceremony.

Adele’s homecoming got off to a great start when she won the award for Song of the Year for her 2021 comeback number 1 Easy on Me.

After collecting her first award of the evening, the London-born star then took to the stage later in the show to perform I Drink Wine, from her recent chart topping album 30.

It was when she collected her next award that ITV bosses had to hit the mute button.

Beating off competition from the likes of Sam Fender and Ed Sheeran, a jubilant Adele took to the stage once again to collect her trophy for Artist of the Year.

During her second acceptance speech of the night, the multi-award winning star paid tribute to fellow nominee Little Simz, who had just collected the gong for Best New Artist.

But as Adele offered her thoughts on the talented rapper, ITV bosses hit mute as the global mega star appeared to drop some expletives.

“I’ve got to much love for you I think you’re absolutely…” Adele gushed, before the sound cut off for a few seconds.

Shouting out the other nominees in the category as the sound came back, the former BRIT School student continued: “Dave, Ed, Sam; I love being in your company.

“I genuinely love being an artist. I can’t believe it’s my job.”

Adele’s speech being muted on Tuesday night comes 10 years after the singing sensation gave BRITs bosses the finger on stage as her speech was cut short.

Following an incredible rise to global fame, Adele had returned to the UK and collected two awards at the 2012 BRIT Awards.

But as the pride of British music collected her final award of the evening, Mastercard British Album of the Year, an apologetic James Corden cut the singer short so Blur’s live performance could fit into the TV broadcast.

Angry Adele went on to flip her middle finger to the crowd, a gesture she stresses was meant for “the suits, not the fans.”

The singer added: “I’m sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me.”

Mortified about the incident, host James said after the show: “I just feel bad about having to cut Adele off. I really don’t understand quite why I was made to, but it’s not a very nice way to end …

“She’s the biggest star in the world. I don’t understand what happened but I’m upset about it. Blur played for 11 minutes and she didn’t get a chance to say thank you once.”
