There are a lot of movies out there to watch during the holidays. There can be a lot to choose from all ranging in different genres like comedy and drama. Don’t know what movies to start with? Here is a list of some movies, channels and streaming services that are available for the holiday season.

These movies are the ones I usually try to watch during the holidays. All these movies make my holiday season special and makes me feel close with my family even when I cannot physically be with them.

“Elf” – stars Will Ferrell as Buddy the elf, it is about an orphan who falls into Santa’s bag and gets to live at the North Pole. When he becomes an adult he wants to find his real father. This movie is a great comedy with hints of drama, it is perfect for the whole family or just when you need to lighten the mood. It runs about an hour and 37 minutes. You can find it on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, iTunes, Vudu and Google Play.

“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” – stars Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, the plot is about a father/husband wanting the holiday season to go perfect, so he tries to do everything in his power to get that done, ranging from dealing with unplanned family members and his employers taking back the needed Christmas bonus. The movie is a great comedy, perfect for the whole family. It runs about an hour and 37 minutes as well. You can find it to stream on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, iTunes, Vudu, Google play and Fandango now.

“A Christmas Story” – stars Peter Billingsley as Ralphie Parker, who spends his time dreaming about wanting a red Ryder bb gun for Christmas while being at odds with his father and dodging bullies during school. Great to watch on or closer to Christmas Day. It runs about an hour and 34 minutes. It can be streamed from Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Vudu, iTunes, Google Play and can be found playing on multiple channels on a TV service like Dish or DirecTV.

“The Polar Express” – animated with the voice of Daryl Sabara as the main child, the movie follows a boy on a journey to the North Pole on a train, the key to get to ride the train is a golden ticket. During the ride the boy learns about the spirit of Christmas and the true meaning of friendship. This movie is a blend of all the genres in one, it can be funny one moment and serious the next. It runs about an hour and 40 minutes. It can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Vudu, iTunes, Google Glay and on your tv service via app or on the tv itself.

“Eight Crazy Nights” – animated with the voice of Adam Sandler as Davy Stone, it follows Stone as he continues out the sentence of having to do community service by being a referee to a youth basketball league. With doing this, Davy truly learns what the holidays and the Christmas spirit really is. It is a comedy with a little bit of a musical mixed in, it is rated for older ages but is still great to watch with family. It runs about an hour and 26 minutes. It can be streamed on from Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Vudu, iTunes, Google Play and Cinemax go.

“Home Alone” – stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, it follows Kevin as he protects his home from burglars when he is left alone by mistake when his family leaves for Paris. It is a mixture of comedy and adventure. It runs about an hour and 55 minutes. It can be found to stream on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Vudu, iTunes and Google Play.

“Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas” – animated with the voice of Kelsey Grammar as the narrator who tells three tales of traditional and nontraditional stories. It has a little of everything in it from comedy to drama. It runs about an hour and six minutes. It can be streamed on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Vudu, iTunes and Google Play.

“The Santa Clause” – stars Tim Allen as Scott who becomes the new Santa Clause after an accident, he at first does not believe it until he starts turning into Santa himself. It is a blend of comedy, fantasy and drama. It runs about an hour and 47 minutes. It can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Vudu, iTunes and Google Play.

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” – stars Jim Carry as the Grinch in the live action and offers the voice of Boris Karloff in the animated movie. It follows a hermit who goes down to the village at the bottom of his cave and steals all their Christmas gifts, decorations and all the other items relating to Christmas. It is a blend of fantasy, comedy and drama. The animated movie runs about 26 minutes and the live action is about an hour and 45 minutes. They can both be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Vudu, iTunes and Google Play.

“Love Actually” – stars many celebrities, it follows the stories of nine people during the hectic month following up to Christmas day. It is a mixture of Romance comedy and drama. It runs about two hours and 15 minutes. It can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Vudu, iTunes and Google Play.

You can find these movies and many other playing on channels such as Hallmark, Freeform, TBS, TNT and ABC.
