BCAC offers exercise classes of all kinds

The Borger Community Activity Center, commonly called BCAC, is an affordable activity center for both the community and FPC students. In addition to access to almost all facilities available, such as the swimming pool and weight rooms, it also offers different workout classes. Currently, there are eight classes available with flexible schedules for the BCAC members.

There is the Emeritus class, which is offered from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. or 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday. The class focuses on using full-range-of-motion exercise in the water with a purpose to improve flexibility and exercising core joints with little or no impact, led by instructor Estelle Valle.

Gwyn Scott and Earlann Short are the instructors of the Aquasize class, which is offered from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Monday through Friday. This class also takes place in water. It is an interactive class that allows its members to focus on stretching and joint health. Scott and Short

Another water class available at the BCAC is Water Aerobics instructed by Merinda Burkhalter. The class meets at 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Monday and Wednesday.The typical training day of the class would be walking and toning for the first 30 minutes and then followed by water exercises.

Willa West is the instructor of the Group Weight Training class. The class takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays. The class offers a personalized weight training program designed by a personal trainer to meet individual needs. West also instructs the Circuit Training class which is intended to get heart rate in its target zone and combine with muscular strength training and flexibility.

The BCAC also offers a Line Dancing class which is instructed by Merinda Burkhalter. The class takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday and Friday. Then 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. It is for beginner-level members. It is designed to be fun and interactive; participants will walk about three miles while dancing.

For any members who prefer moderate or high-impact workout, Blendercise class is the one. The class takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The instructor Gina Smith leads people with some warm-ups followed by step aerobics and cool down, then floor work using bands and weights.

“I hope that everyone in the room leaves with a loving experience, pride of accomplishment and broadening knowledge,” Smith said.

Cheryl Webster, a member of the Blendercise class says she loves the class.

“Gina Smith, is tough and strong and she cares about every student in the class, helping us get fit, regardless of ability,” Webster said.

Last but not least, there is a Yoga class, instructed by Lucretia Gross. The class is one-hour long starting at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Yoga is offered to those who would like to participate in breathing practices, physical exercises and postures and meditation intended to integrate the practitioner’s body, mind and spirit.

With these available classes offered at the BCAC, it is hopeful that the community and FPC students can take their opportunities to join workout classes they are interested in for fitness and better health.
