On Friday the Global Issues Club met to discuss the HIV/AIDS epidemic that still exists today. We learned in 2014 that there were over 37 million people infected with the HIV/AIDS virus.

Contracted by blood, saliva, and other bodily fluids, this virus spreads very easily and quickly. Awareness about this virus has dropped considerably in the last 20+ years leading to a major misconception that HIV/AIDS is a “manageable virus.” Medical professionals do agree and have proven that people infected live longer with a regime of antiviral drugs.

For those who have to take said regime of expensive drugs just to survive disagree with the statement of HIV/AIDS as a “manageable virus.”  The only way to manage this epidemic is through education and prevention.
