‘Machismo is violence’ is the slogan chosen for the awareness campaign of the Diputación de Bizkaia launched on the occasion of November 25, International Day against Violence against Women.

A total of 1237 women have suffered sexist violence in Bizkaia in the first half of this year by their partners or ex-partners, domestic violence or attacks on their sexual freedom.

With these data in hand, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia today presented the awareness campaign launched on the occasion of International Day Against Violence Against Women, the next November 25.

The campaign is based on the motto Machismo is violence and it has illustrations of a girl and a boy with a message each. She says “I’m mine, I’m not yours”; him “They are not things that happen.”

In the presentation this Thursday of the campaign, at the Elorrieta Erreka-Mari Vocational Training Center in Bilbao, the Biscayan provincial deputy for Employment, Social Inclusion and Equality, Teresa Laespada, has denounced that “male violence is structural” and stressed that “we live in a society based on inequality”, in which “male violence against women is the most serious example of this inequality.”

The awareness material to citizenship has been distributed today among the students of the Bilbao school, and also It will be distributed throughout the entire territory: 221 women’s associations, 233 non-profit organizations, 112 city councils in Bizkaia, 6,454 stores, 648 school sports organizations (which on the weekend of November 27 and 28 will take photos in the previous pose to the sporting events that they carry out), to 71 sports centers, 257 schools and 171 health centers, among other areas.

The campaign will also be present in professional sports, through Athletic Club (women’s game on the 20th and men’s match on the 26th), Lointek Gernika (18th), Lutxana Arraun (28th), Bilbao Basket or Zuazo Handball and adapted basketball Bidaideak.

Data on the rise

In the first six months of 2021, the data for the same period last year has been exceeded, with 1,237 cases of sexist violence registered. In all of 2020, a total of 2311 women suffered some type of sexist violence in Bizkaia.

According to data from the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, 1589 women suffered one or more episodes of violence from their partner or ex-partner last year, 554 women suffered at least one episode of domestic violence and 168 women suffered one case or more of attacks against their freedom sexual.

Likewise, last year 304 protection orders were initiated (171 adopted), while in In the first half of this year, there are 175 protection orders filed (94 adopted) in the territory.

According to data from the Observatory of Sexist Violence of Bizkaia, the Emergency Reception Service of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia attended 191 people last year (105 women, 82 daughters and sons and four dependents). In this year, until the middle of August, 144 people have been assisted (84 women, 59 daughters and sons and a dependent person).
